App Review: CookIt

Expanding your cooking repertoire is easy with an Android app like CookIt. Enter the ingredients you have and search through the list for a dish you’d like to prepare. Once you find a dish, click on its name to get a list of ingredients you’ll need. Use the tab at the top to click back and forth between Ingredients and Preparation.

Under the Ingredients tab, you’ll see how many servings you will be preparing, details of each ingredient so there’s no guessing about how much you’ll need to prepare a delicious meal.

The Preparation tab gives details on how you’ll actually prepare the dish step by step. If you want to hear the instructions, press to start the voice reading of the preparation (during testing, I could not get this feature to work, but your mileage may vary).

You can only search for one ingredient at a time when searching for recipes, which makes it a little difficult to find what you’re looking for if you use a commonly used item like rice or hamburger. So, use more obscure ingredients to find something delicious to cook for dinner!

You can favorite recipes that you cook and enjoy, so you can quickly find them by pressing Menu and clicking “Favorite”. Compile a huge list of recipes to use later – and you can remove them by long pressing and clicking “Remove from Favorite”.

This is a handy app when you have a little time on your hands to pick a dish to make and you have ingredients on hand to make a dinner to remember. For nutritional information, you must visit the ecuisine.org website, as the app does not provide this information.
