TV.com App

I promise that even though I last posted about the TV Guide App, I don’t use my Droid primarily for television-watching purposes! I just wanted to write a quick post about the TV.com application I found recently because it is really neat. You can watch full episodes of some TV shows right on your Droid!

TV.com

A WiFi connection is necessary for some of the higher-def episodes, and I’ve found that the streaming was smooth and there were surprisingly few ads during the shows I watched. The video isn’t the highest quality, but good enough for TV-watching on a phone screen.

A lot of the “shows” are actually just short clips, but there’s an option in the menu lets you filter the show list to easily find full episodes. It seems like some channels have a fixed list of old episodes, while some channels provide regular updates and display the newest episodes. The app is by CBS so I’m assuming the various channels in the app are owned by CBS. Here are some examples of shows with full episodes available:

  • 48 Hours Mystery
  • CSI, CSI:Miami, & CSI:NY
  • Late Show w/David Letterman
  • Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson
  • MacGyver
  • NCIS & NCIS:LA
  • The Price is Right
  • Star Trek: The Original Series
  • Survivor
  • Undercover Boss
  • The Young and the Restless
  • plus several more that I didn’t list here

There are also gadget review & tech news clips from CNET, CBS News in story-length clips, ‘ETtoGo’ celebrity interview clips, and a channel of movie trailers.

Watching TV on your Droid is a fun way to pass the time, to keep a kid entertained when you’re out, or to watch at home if you don’t have a DVR!

I also wanted to give you a tip I discovered recently – if your exercise area doesn’t include a TV, you can watch these shows or YouTube clips on your phone while working out! It makes the time pass by faster, and it’s portable so you can take it with you to wherever you work out. It gives me an excuse to watch long shows like Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show since I can’t justify sitting at my computer for 2 hours to watch an episode!

Do you watch TV on your Droid? Tell us in the comments!

Yes I watch TV on the Droid! Recently we moved to Hawaii and in an effort to trim expenses I gave up sat. TV & Tivo. Being a Tivo snob I can’t even stand to watch shows on TV without being able to fast forward thru the commercials so I found my bDroid a GREAT alternative. I also use you tube to search for shows and can find full episodes of most of my favorites chopped into 5 parts….but NO commercials!

I even paid the .99 to add favorite channels to the TV Guide app. So worth it!
