Hi, Sue!

The comment you heard that ‘Android is “not for beginners”‘ is nonsense. Like any smartphone, it takes a little getting used to, but it’s not “hard” to learn!

We don’t typically cover hardware here since we don’t all have experience with multiple phones, but I plan to use a modified version of your question as an ‘Ask the Droid Women’ post, so keep an eye out for an answer soon!

Thanks!

Thanks for your question!

I don’t believe any of us regular bloggers have kids, but someone that is going to guest-post for us does. I’ll pose the question on Twitter and see if any Droid Women there can answer, too!

I have a very 30,000 degree level question – and a biggie… Which is the best smartphone for me?

“Me” = a professional, 30 something female who, while quite intelligent overall, is a non-techie/late adopter. Big time. My early adopter friend just went so far as to call me a “type A technophobe” the other day. (She had to set up iTunes for me when I got an iPod like 2 years after everybody else:)

I am off my contract and truly want to purchase a new smartphone which is right for me. I have tried to like iphones and I just don’t. I have not gotten used to touch screens either. I have a Blackberry for work, but actually hate it for anything beyond email.

I want essentially a pocket PC. I like the Dell Streak for this reason, but feel it will be slightly too bulky, esp for a female. I want an all in one media device – a Samsung Galaxy S phone, perhaps?

I will do calling, heavy texting, heavy web browsing and email, music. GPS/navigation and a good camera would be useful. I am not a game player, nor am I heavy into social networking – yes, I have a facebook profile, but am barely on it.

I will want certain apps like Shazam, bar code scanner, etc. but don’t really know what’s out there in that realm. As I get used to them, I’m sure I’ll add only what I need and want.

PLEASE HELP! I’m willing to invest in the right phone, just not sure what that is for me. I have heard Android is “not for beginners” so I’m a little freaked out as I have no idea what that means.

(And do you have a hard time sharing your Android with them?)
